APPENNINO LUCANO NATIONAL PARK
view
"An exciting journey in Basilicata valleys between mountains and rivers". The National Park of Lucan-Val d'Agri-Lagonegrese is an extensive range of protected areas within the territory of Basilicata. Its perimeter stands on a large part of Lucan, along a border divided from the peaks of Volturino and Pierfaone up to the massif Sirino, which as a matter of fact includes some of the major peaks of the South. Between these two complex, imposing and jagged, fanning the tops system sweetest della Maddalena, a complex of mountains, sweeter and less high-profile, enclosing the upper valley of the river Agri. Its geographical location makes it a perfect environmental corridor between two large natural reserves of the Pollino National Park and the National Park of Cilento, the center of the regional system of protected areas. The Park has a varied geology and geomorphology with tectono-karstic basins, temporary lakes, sinkholes, caves, springs, areas rich in fossils and obvious geological structures that testify to the highlights of the evolution of Lucan. Its geological history dates back some 200 million years ago when the original landscape began to form the sedimentary sequences that would later constitute the backbone of the mountains that today we admire.
