What travellers say about the experience

It’s the people of Cabo de Gata that have made the trip special. Everyone we’ve met is so passionate about their work; the local artisan fisherman Luis el Chato, the lighthouse keeper Mario, the 75-year-old pottery maker Loli. Most memorable of all was seeing the crystal clear night’s sky, learning how to find the north star, and looking through the telescope to see the craters of the moon with Gonzalo and Iñaki.

The uniqueness of this Park became clear from day one, when Iñaqui, our guide, took us through the arid coastal area of the western part of this park. Semi-arid volcanic mountains falling into crystal clear sea waters, breathtaking views of beaches spotted with natural pools, salt ponds bursting with “flamingos”, and an assortment of fauna and flora hardly found elsewhere in the continent.
— Andrea Serpagli
We trekked, we watched the birds, we looked for the chameleon and wildlife in the park and I even went snorkelling in Cala Higuera and La Isleta del Moro, enjoying the pristine water and marine biodiversity of these Andalusian gems all for myself.

A TASTE OF THE EXPERIENCE

sustainability

  • This itinerary has an ecological footprint of 0.09 gha per tourist, which is lower than the MEET average. The package also shows a positive to ideal performance in the social impact of the different product suppliers, including workers, local communities, value chain and visitors.

  • One of the main successes of the itinerary in terms of sustainability is reducing the ecological footprint resulting from food and drinks. Special attention is given to reducing the quantity of food, substituting high trophic level fish species, and increasing the proportion of food of local origin. International suppliers are avoided altogether!

  • Visitors get to truly experience the natural park's heritage and conservation efforts through birdwatching, stargazing, hiking, kayaking and other unique activities. As nature plays a key role in the experience, the park also includes a wildlife conservation activity in the tour, where guests can take part in a chameleon census project run by a local charity.
